Water watching

Beauty, Calmness

Watching water change magical designs

Moving water carries you to its splendour. As the Salmon River in Fundy National Park flows around rocks, it continuously creates new designs. As I watch the water more closely, I feel inside a world of splendour.

Some sparkles with sunlight. Others turn the colours of the rocks into watery jewels of turquoise, jade and amber. I take many photos. I want to remind myself of the continuous beauty the river creates. The river feels alive and even playful. The ripples continuously paint fresh sunlight on the rocks below. Each pattern lasts less than a breath; none are repeated; each takes my breath away.

Over two thousand years ago, the Greek philosopher Heraclitus said that you’ll never stand in the same water again. Was it his way of reminding us that “now” is the only moment we have.

I watch the water move past my feet and on to its new adventure. Moving water carries you to its splendour. I’ve forgotten any concerns or stresses before I stepped into the Salmon River.
